Yeah, that is the problem I have with how some of the Phantom Troupe members are written and how The chimera ant arc is written. Chimera Ant Queen, Regular ants, Ant squadron leaders and Royal guards and the King have killed thousand of innocents people some were children, those people deserves justice and the Hunters can't even serve it to those that deserve it because BS... I don't mind redeeming characters that did not kill (Octopus & Chameleon), heck if they expressed remorse like Colt did I'm ok with that. I thought King was going that route when he himself admitted the awful thing he did especially to a child but no he went Full Asshole with his speech. Thus eliminating any redeeming quality he had after meeting blind girl and "changing".

Well, hunters are prepared every day to fight with their lives on the line. The whole definition of a hunter is to seek something, and in HxH they seek it at all costs under life-threatening circumstances. They aren't actually marvel superheroes whose goal is to protect people, and in other contexts their hunting could even cause others harm. In order to achieve their goals, they have to train like machines. You saw the backstory on Netero training 4 years in isolation for the entire day. All of this is the life they live.

For them, facing another powerful warrior is the ideal of their lifestyle. Protecting others comes second. If they abandon who they are as warriors, then they can no longer live as hunters, no longer train the way they do, no longer lay their lives down for the sake of their hunting.

In this context, many hunters will trade others' lives or at the very least their own life, which is what Knuckle tried to do. He wanted to fight Yuupi after saving Morel and obviously kill himself. His honor stays intact, and he dies protecting others.

Think of it as choosing between your spouse and your child, or your parent and a sibling. Your spouse/parent would probably want you to spare the child/sibling, and the younger person is the one who has the most future. However, both roads are a terrible nightmare. In the heat of the moment, in the case both choices have reached the limit of perceptible sacrifice, they feel equal.

Shoot wasn't degraded to trash anymore. Yuupi acknowledged them all and called them amazing. Shoot's honor was restored. That's why Knuckle gave up: Yuupi had recognized them as warriors, carried himself as a warrior, and so Knuckle recognized Yuupi as a warrior.

People change over time. It was in the past when he had no clue how revenge could impact a person. “Someone he just barely knows” Yess that's true but Kite saved his life thrice. Revenge doesn’t have to be only about family and clan. Kite’s corpse condition is what I believe drives Gon insane. Gon saw Kite's lifeless body in Komougi when he encountered Pitou, That explained why he went rampage.
